Macau "One Belt One Road" Research Center is an interdisciplinary research institution specializing in The "Belt and Road" Initiative and the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area". The center conducts think tank research on relevant policies of The "Belt and Road" Initiative; provides the government with policy making reference through relevant research results; and builds an international cooperation and exchange platform for Portuguese-speaking countries to participate in The "Belt and Road" Initiative on this basis, and explores The role that Macao can be played in the construction of The "Belt and Road" Initiative and the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”.

In May 2015, during the preparatory period, the Center organized and held the "International Business Law Summit Forum in the Context of The "Belt and Road" Initiative in Cross-Strait and Four Regions". In 2016, the Center was established as the first academic research institution specializing in The "Belt and Road" Initiative in the universities in Macau. It has attracted the attention of the leaders of the Central Government Liaison Office in Macau, the SAR Government, and the University Board of Directors, and has also received strong support from all sectors of the Macau society.

In 2017, President Xi Jinping proposed at the first Belt and Road Summit for International Cooperation to promote the construction of 50 “Belt and Road” joint laboratories in the countries along the “Belt and Road” within 5 years. In 2020, The "Belt and Road" Initiative Cultural Heritage Science Sino-Portuguese Joint Laboratory of the City University of Macau was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology, which is the only one in Macau. The university has led the establishment of the China-Portuguese and China-Latin America Knowledge Achievement Transformation Alliance; the Center has successively cooperated with Tsinghua University’s The "Belt and Road" Initiative Strategic Research Institute, Hengqin Youth Entrepreneur Valley, Haiguo Tuzhi Strategic Research Institute, Macau Institute of European Studies, The Association of Maritime Silk Road. (Macau), Zhi-shan Co., Ltd. and other government agencies, universities and research institutes, as well as incubators and enterprises signed a memorandum of cooperation or a graduate internship base. Relevant cooperation memos have been signed with Huanggang Normal University, and relevant cooperation memos are being negotiated with Sun Yat-sen University Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Development Research Institute, Huaqiao University and other units.

In recent years, the center has held the "International Business Law Summit Forum under the Conditions of The‘Belt and Road’ Initiative", The "‘Belt and Road’Initiative Academic Seminar (2016)", and the "The Significance of The Belt and Road Initiative for Portuguese-speaking Countries", etc. Dozens of large-scale national academic seminars; invited many government officials such as the Minister of Commerce and Trade of East Timor; invited experts and scholars from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Minho, Cape Verde National University and other famous universities; invited Brazil National Arts Theatre, Cape Verde National Art Theatre, etc. from Portuguese-speaking countries to do cultural and academic exchanges. Hold 50 academic salons on the “Belt and Road” Initiative for graduate students.

The research team of the center have carried out long-term research on national research, investment and security, humanities and diplomacy, language strategy and policy in the countries and regions along The "Belt and Road" Initiative, especially in Portuguese-speaking countries. After unremitting efforts, they have accumulated a large number of basic scientific research. data.
